ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 0 OR 4.00 (depends on study program) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisits:

Basic knowledge of constitutional law, public international law, EU law.
Short description:

The purpose of the course is to develop students' interest in fundamental and current issues of EU law, their ability to make their own inquiery into the subject matter, present the results publicly and participate in the discussion.

Learning outcomes:

Student/

Knowledge:

- knows current issues of EU law,

- understands the relation between the EU law and international law, issues of member states sovereignty and multilevel governance.

Skills:

- operates various methods and tools to find legal texts or documents (e.g. Eurolex, HUDOC, libraries),

- analyses and evaluates different positions, legal acts and case law and applies them in self-training,

- employs the information, including obtained by studying the source materials to solve new legal problems.

Social skills:

- understands the need for constant self-learning,

- is critical of doctrinal positions, law and case law.

Teaching Method:

Short introduction made by the teacher, formulation of questions, students prepare written answers, papers are presented and discussed at the meetings.
Method and Criteria of Assessment:

Active participation in the classes; short, two papers to prove the ability to resolve legal questions.
Course Content:

The tutorial is devoted to the topical issues of the European integration i.a. the future of the EU, Brexit, the EU accession to the European Convention of Human Rights, refugees in the EU, protection of the rule of law in the EU.
