Skrócony opis:

Managing in Cross Cultural Diversity can be introduced as the modern version of the subject called ‘Managing Cross Cultural Diversity’. The old version indicates that cultural diversity is to be managed. This view point claims an involvement of high level of ethnocentric assumptions. The core question to be raised is that in relation to which culture do you manage a cultural diversity? This perspective in management in cultural diversity scenario has created many challenges not only to the organizations but also hot countries themselves.

Managing in Cross cultural Diversity values differences as it is in different cultures and the focus is not to manage a particular culture but to think innovatively how to management within such unique cultural context. This will definitely arouse more novel challenges to managers, yet reduce troubles for host nations that eventually can guaranty sustainability of business in cross cultural nations.

Knowledge

•Is aware of social relations types and ways to both address them in organizations and regularities governing the functioning of the bonds. Knows mechanisms for integrating people into the organization; is aware of promotion of employee participation in decision making and corporate culture change.

•Is aware of meaning of a man who sets up corporations; recognises organizational rules and indicates motives and approaches of various OD&HRM activities

•lists and describes the fundamental methods and tools of operating and strategic management relating to OD&HRM in a corporation;

•classifies and discusses elements of ethical norms and values which are crucial for management change;

•defines change management and illustrates its impact on HRM solutions

•relates OD&HRM methods to business problems and explains them in a time perspective;

Skills

•interprets information from employees opinion and behaviours regarding OD&HRM activities and explains how this information affects a business corporation management

•uses the basic theoretical knowledge to provide managers with information necessary for decision-making process regarding OD&HRM activities

•analyses the causes and progress of specified processes and phenomenon within the corporation and its external environment with the use of basic theoretical tools and methods derived from operating and strategic OD&HRM activities

•possess the ability to predict the causes and course of OD&HRM activities inside and outside of corporation

•combines knowledge and observations to highlight relevant managerial issue, problem, or opportunity;

•examines possible solutions to specific organizational problems and suggests techniques of their solutions

•understands the need for long-life learning

•is aware of team work of corporation and sees the need for role-play in the process

•is aware of a structure of tasks hierarchy in corporate management

•identifies competencies in corporate problem-solving

Informacje dodatkowe:

The course is combined of two types of classes: a) discussion classes and b) tutorials. This distinction is however of a formal meaning. In reality classes are activity-based. Each student is expected to read the textbook, find a representation of its content in the real world, bring their knowledge to the class and share it with others.

Metody dydaktyczne:

The teaching methods applied to the course include lecture, discussion, case study, debate, simulation, experiential sharing, and independent observations (bringing student’s insights after the reading). The course delivery methods are designed to fully involve students in the learning process while enjoying such learning.

Sposoby i kryteria oceniania:

Grading is based on every student’s activity throughout the semester as reflected by student’s being ready to produce the results of a week assignment.

Students are expected to well prepared to active learning and read suggested readings.

Grading policy

The individual grades of each student are calculated as percentage of the maximum score, counted together for discussion and tutorials classes.

The final grade of each student consist of the following elements:

• Discussion

• Case analysis

not less than 80 = 4+;

not less than 70 = 4;

not less than 59 = 3+;

not less than 50 = 3;
