This course unit is mainly designed for undergraduates to think of applying the learnings derived from the subjects of management perspectives into the real world management scenario. Management is a subject that integrates knowledge from different field of studies and the purpose of management is greater performance outcomes. Innovation is critical in this regard. Mainly, the knowledge on management perspectives’ contribution to business performance, innovation and driving innovation, country experiences in innovative management practices, role of people management in innovation and management, and student’s action learning projects will enable students to think and act practically. The action learning model successfully used in undergraduates’ learning in Sri Lanka by the facilitator, will be shared with the students that integrates seven contexts (nature, culture, traditions and society, Industry, religion, literature, and students) in creating innovative management concepts. |

This course is intended to be a survey of operating practices and models in both manufacturing and service oriented firms, providing sufficient knowledge to make informed "ethical decisions" and to introduce standard terms and concepts for communications with operating personnel. In this sense, it will be noted how many decisions taken in the area of Operations Management can have collateral effects on the workforce (e.g. disabled people integration) and/or the environment. Only through a deep analysis of these decisions is possible to be aware of their real impact in the long term. The overall objectives are: - Developing analytical skills, especially those needed for managing operating systems. - Contributing to common-sense modeling concepts, which can be used to evaluate diverse production management problems. - Making the students aware of their Responsibility as decision makers, analyzing the environmental&social side effects of OM decisions and its strategic link. |
