Prerequisits:

Good knowledge of relational databases, SQL languages, Windows server

Short description:

The course addresses issues related to the administration of database management systems. It focuses on installing and configuring database server, working with databases and their objects, performing backup and recovery. It also covers authenticating and authorizing, audidting and monitoring database server environment, using the Agent services. High availability mechanisms are also discussed. The database server used in this course is MS SQL Server.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of this subject, student:

E1) understands the importance of databases and their applications

E2) knows main database servers

E3) installs and configures a database server

E4) can work with databases (creates databases, modifies them and manages data files)

E5) manages primary database objects (tables, indices, views)

E6) understands available recovery models

E7) develops a strategy for backups and performs different types of backups

E8) can restore the database after malfunction

E9) understands the issues releted to authentication and authorization

E10) creates users and roles, grants priviliges to them

E11) knows the main mechanisms of security and audit

E12) uses the main tools to administer and monitor the database

E13) can work individually and in small groups on the given issue

E14) can organize the learning process

E15) understands the need for continuous training

E16) complies with the legal and ethical in his actions

8) Basic administration of the Active Directory Services

9) Implementing authentication and authorization (managing logins and server roles, managing users and database roles)

11) Restoring of SQL Server databases in different scenarios (point of failure recovery, point in time recovery, restore a database to a marked transaction).
